COVID has made fundraising challenging for all non-profits, including the Quesnel & District Hospice Palliative Care Association. In an effort to keep everyone safe and healthy while working within pandemic restrictions, the QDHPCA decided to try a Virtual Hike for Hospice this year.
The premise was simple. Sign up at www.QDHPCA.org, gather pledges from March 15 - May 2, 2021, and then Hike from May 3-9 in a safe, socially distanced manner that works for the participants. Teams received prizes for signing up and their name was put into a draw for a basket prize.
The response was overwhelming. Sixteen teams signed up and raised over $11,000 for Hospice Palliative care needs in Quesnel. The funds will go towards a new bariatric wheelchair for Dunrovin Lodge, a new TV and non-slip socks for Quesnel Hospice, and a new palliative mattress for GRB Hospital.
The top 4 fundraisers were
Team Never too Late (Carol Weremy)
Team Gonzalez (Melissa Gonzalez)
McKerlie Family (Dwayne McKerlie)
Judy's Hike for Hospice (Judy Monych)
The winner of the Basket Draw was Melissa Gonzalez.
