Owners and management of City Furniture and Appliances Ltd. outlets from across B.C. and Alberta recently teed off for a good cause at the Quesnel Golf Course.
One week after the 22nd annual charity golf tournament, $15,000 was presented to the Quesnel and District Child Development Centre, and the Quesnel and District Hospice Palliative Care Association on Monday, June 20.
“I was the main organizer, but I was the one driving the golf cart around the area, making sure everybody was taken care of,” said City Furniture Quesnel manager Parveen Pannu. “It was such a fun event, and it’s for such a good cause and it just overall turned out really great.”
In 2004, the annual City Furniture sponsored fundraiser was held in Quesnel, supporting the Child Development Centre.

Pannu said they were supposed to host the tournament in 2020, but it was postponed due to the pandemic. This year, the 60 golfers outputted their original fundraising goal of $8,000 to $10,000 on Monday, June 13, supporting the two Quesnel groups. Funds were raised through ticket sales, dinner, and the support of local sponsors, suppliers and vendors.
“Quesnel is near and dear to my heart, so for me especially, it’s really important to give back to the community, and we always say that to our customers,” Pannu said. “When you shop locally, you allow us to do these things and give back to the community, and so it’s so important to thank our customers as well because, without them, we wouldn’t be able to give back and do the things that we do.”
Pannu returned to Quesnel in September 2021. She will be taking over ownership of Quesnel City Furniture once her parents, Jack and Rami, retire.
